Use role-specific question guides and adjust them to your business.

“We used to lose 45 minutes per candidate scheduling the call, taking it, and writing it up. Now we send a link, the candidate does the screen whenever it suits them, and I review it on my own time in about five minutes. That time went straight back to our team.”

Questions before your first interview

What does PhoneScreen do for a small business? +

It handles resume screening and first-round interviews by phone or, with beta access, AI video. You set the questions for the role, candidates speak with an AI interviewer, and your team reviews the results. It fits owners, managers, and small recruiting teams hiring for hourly roles.

Is this a live conversation or a recorded video questionnaire? +

Both phone and AI video screens are live, two-way conversations. Phone screens need no camera. Video screens, available with beta access, run in the browser with a camera and microphone. Both use your questions and return a recording, transcript, and scorecard.

Do I need an ATS or a dedicated HR team? +

No. Set up a role and share its apply link from your job post or by email or text. You can also connect a supported ATS, Zapier, the API, or webhooks if you already use them. Your team keeps control of the hiring decision.

Which phone numbers and languages are supported? +

Calling supports US and Canadian phone numbers. Interviews are available in 34 languages. Candidates choose their interview language; your team can review the transcript and scorecard in English.

How does the free trial work? +

You get 10 completed phone screens once, with resume screening while trial screens remain. No card is required and there is no automatic charge. When those screens run out, new phone and resume screening pauses until you choose a subscription. Your saved results remain available. Reference Agent requires Pro or Enterprise.

What does Basic include, and what happens if I need more screens? +

Basic is $99/month with 25 shared screen credits each month and resume screening. Phone uses 1 credit; AI video uses 2 with beta access. After the allowance, phone costs $4 and video $8. Allowances refresh monthly without rollover. Annual Basic costs $990 upfront with the same monthly allowance; additional usage is billed monthly. Prices are in USD before applicable taxes.

What counts as a completed screen? +

A completed phone interview with a scorecard. Missed calls, voicemail, technical failures, candidates who decline or ask to stop, and short hang-ups do not consume a screen. A candidate who hangs up after more than a minute, having given real answers, still gets a scorecard, with zero for unanswered questions, and it counts as a screen.

Does the AI choose who gets hired? +

Your team makes every hiring decision. The AI provides scores and their reasoning alongside the transcript and recording so you can review the evidence. It introduces itself as an AI and opens calls with a recording notice.
